ADFLEX WBEWATER BASED EPOXY MEMBRANE
ADFLEX WBE is a water based membrane/moisture barrier coating.
Approved for use with potable (drinking) water, independent testing confirms.
Conforms with the requirements of AS4020.2000 & BS6920.
DESCRIPTION:
ADFLEX WBE combines the excellent adhesion and toughness of epoxy resins with the ease of application of water based systems. ADFLEX WBE has excellent adhesion to damp or dry surfaces, far superior to conventional paints. ADFLEX WBE may be applied to concrete, asbestos cement (fibro), plaster, stone and cement block.
FEATURES/BENEFITS:
Water based - easy clean up using water
Non-flammable - low odour - easy to apply
Economical
Excellent adhesion to dry and damp surfaces including freshly laid (hardened) concrete.
Cured membrane will withstand hydrostatic pressure.
Environmentally friendly - safe to use in sensitive locations.
Good resistance to a wide range of chemicals.
Can be overcoated with most decorative/industrial finishes and adhesives.
TYPICAL APPLICATIONS:
Treatment of rising damp, as a low water vapour transmission coating.
As a waterproofing barrier to prevent the ingress of water through below grade concrete or masonry structures.
ie. basements-tunnels-liftwells.
To prevent water seepage/dampness penetration through to the interior of walls and floors.
As a waterproof barrier/seal coating prior to overcoating with other coatings.
As a waterproof barrier over freshly laid (hardened) concrete, prior to the installation of conventional carpet and tile adhesives.
TYPICAL PROPERTIES:
Colour: Grey (mixed product)(Part A is clear; Part B is grey)
Mixing Ratio: 1:1 (Part A:Part B) by volume
Pot Life: 1/2 hour @ 25°C + 50% R.H.
Time between coats: 2-24hours @ 25°C + 50% R.H.
Initial Cure/Set: 12-24hours @ 25°C + 50% R.H.
Full Cure: 7 days @ 25°C + 50% R.H.
Coverage: To achieve an effective waterproof barrier, ADFLEX WBE must be applied at a rate of 1.5 sqm/litre. Generally 2 uniform coats at a rate of 3.0 sqm/litre per coat. In the event the 2 coats are insufficient an additional coat will be necessary to achieve the required film build.
As a Primer in situations where waterproofing is not a priority, a single application at the rate of 5 sqm/litre will suffice.
Values provided above are typical average figures achieved in laboratory testing. Actual values achieved in on-site conditions may vary slightly.
APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS:
Surface preparations
All surfaces must be structurally sound, free of any coatings, adhesives, grease, oil, form release agents, curing compounds, dirt/dust and any other surface contaminants. Non-structural cracks, holes and any other surface deformities to be rectified. Prime the surface with ADFLEX WBE, while still tacky, fill voids with a mortar made from one part ADFLEX WBE mix, two parts sand/cement mix.
Leave at least two hours before over-coating with ADFLEX WBE. Should sanding be required leave a minimum of 12 hours and allowed to cure prior to the application of ADFLEX WBE.
Efforesence must be removed, either by high pressure cleaning or a 5% hydrochloric acid solution.
Although ADFLEX WBE may be applied to a damp surface, do not apply to surfaces having free water. Very dry, porous surfaces must be dampened with a fine mist of water.
APPLICATION:
Mix each component individually to a homogeneous blend.
Thoroughly mix the two components in the ratio of 1:1 by volume (equal portions Parts A&B) until a homogeneous blend is achieved. Avoid excessive and high speed blending. Mix only the amount of product to be used within the pot life.
ADFLEX WBE may be applied by brush, roller or spray; or either of the following combinations, squeegee/roller, broom/roller.
On dry, porous surfaces the first coat may be thinned with up to 10% fresh, clean water. To ensure optimum performance, thinning of additional coats should be avoided.
Horizontal: Spread the material using a squeegee or stiff nylon broom to achieve coverage and finish with a long nap roller.
Vertical: Apply product by roller or spray. Several coats may be needed to achieve the required film build.
The product will be touch dry in approximately 30 minutes (under normal conditions) and may be overcoated after 2 hours drying.
POT LIFE:
Designed to be quick drying for a waterbased system and pot life at 25°C is around 30 minutes only. You can add up to 10% water if it thickens but do not mix more than you can use in 30 minutes.
CLEAN UP:
Wash all equipment with clean water immediately after use. Product once hardened can only be removed mechanically.
LIMITATIONS:
Do not apply if rain is imminent or when temperatures are below 10°C or above 35°C, or in situations where the relative humidity is greater than 85%.
ADFLEX WBE is not classified as a trafficable membrane nor is the product suitable for use over moving cracks.
Although ADFLEX WBE prevents the ingress of liquid water, the coating is breathable and will allow the transmission of water vapour.
In poorly ventilated situations this vapour transmission may lead to the presence of mildew.
Do not overcoat with impervious coatings, coverings or timber flooring.
SAFETY DATA:
ADFLEX WBE is non flammable and classed as non-hazardous.
